Breaking: Gov Masari addresses Katsina State people over Corona Virus
Katsina state government says it is making available funding to the ministry of health to ensure hospitals are better positioned with basic requirements to contain corona virus in the state.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari made this known in a broadcast to the people of Katsina State.
Such basic requirements, according to the Governor include personal protective equipment-PPE and other supportive commodities to handle any eventuality should a confirmed case of Corona virus be identified.
Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that the state government is building an emergency infectious ward in General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital.
In addition he said a temporary isolation centre is being provided at the General Hospital, Katsina.
The Governor advised travellers returning to katsina from abroad, especially those from countries where confirmed cases of Corona virus had been made to be on self quarantine for 14 days, adding that such individuals should immediately report to the nearest health facility once feeling unwell.
He said that the state government through the ministry of health had positioned its personnel to pay special attention to any individual who shows features suggesting that he has corona virus.
Alhaji Aminu Masari solicited for the cooperation of people of Katsina state in making it possible for the government to help in preventing the pandemic.
He reminded the people of Katsina state that the disease mostly affects the respiratory system, mimicking common cold, adding that other symptoms include fever, cough, chest pain and difficulty in breathing when complications develop, and could also lead to death, stressing that confirmed cases have been reported in Nigeria and other African countries.
He said the one suspected case that was tested and found to be negative, this week.
As Muslims, Governor Aminu Masari reminded katsina people of a prophetic saying that” If you hear an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it, but if the plague outbreaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place.”
He said that the prophet also said “Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy” adding that the prophet also strongly encouraged human beings to adhere to hygienic practices that would keep people safe from infection.
Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that the prophet affirmed that”cleanliness is part of faith”, saying that the prophet said”Wash your hands after you wake up, you do not know where your hands have moved while you are asleep.”
He added that the prophet said”the blessings of food is in washing hands before and after eating”.
Therefore, Governor Aminu Masari explained that it is clear that the teachings of the prophet have addressed what katsina people needed to do in times of epidemic.
