NYSC speaks on the case of Corps member who slept with a female student in Katsina
The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State on Wednesday said it was still waiting for the outcome of a police investigation into the rape allegation leveled against a serving corps member in the state.
It insisted that the outcome would determine its next line of action.
A statement by the NYSC spokesman in the state, Mr. Alex Obemeta, on behalf of the state coordinator, declared, “We wish to state that the NYSC is a highly reputable organization where discipline is the hallmark. The scheme will therefore not condone any act of indiscipline by any member of the corps.
“However, the above issue is still under police investigation and we await the conclusion from the force.
“Further necessary briefs and actions will be communicated when the investigation is concluded by the police.”
Recall that the police in Katsina had earlier on Tuesday, arrested and detained a serving corps member in the state for allegedly raping a student in his place of primary assignment.
The corps member whose identity was not revealed was being detained at the Sabon-Gari police station, Katsina.
The spokesman for the Katsina police command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development but said the police were still awaiting the medical report to firmly establish the allegation.
