Celebrating An Achiever: Alhaji Maiwada Dammallam, Ma’ajin Galadiman Katsina – By Aminu Darma

While growing up , I learned two important life lessons from my parents which I still hold dear. Give thanks and show gratitude to people who make impact in your life and help others with no strings attached. They impressed on me that the impact we make on other people’s lives will be their memory of us when we leave the stage of life.

Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life that you can barely remember what life was like without them. Many people will walk in and out of your life but only genuine friends leave footprints in your life. One of such great people is Maiwada Dammallam the Ma’ajin Galadiman Katsina whose ascension to the throne of Ma’ajin Galadiman Katsina today is a clear case of putting a square peg in a square hole.

A selfless man who a colleague once glowingly described as “The man who can sacrifice all his comfort for many others who may barely lift off his shoulder an inch of his burdens.” You just don’t find many of his kinds. It’s really a difficult lifestyle to live but this is Maiwada who does this effortlessly, I pray God to give him more grace as assume this new responsibility.

I have known Ma’aji for long but we never crossed each others path until when the change revolution started during the locust years of the PDP. It was at that crucial time I found a mentor and a political ally without looking for one.

It was from that very time it became a daily routine to visit his social media pages daily to go through his motivational write ups, rejoinders and incisive comments. Maiwada was all over the social media, advocating for CHANGE and simultaneously infusing unwritten ethical codes of the social media in the minds of his followers.

I believe in the saying that “there is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit. Maiwada is a walking, talking proof of this belief. Without much noise, he single handedly organized and controlled the social media aspect of the Masari Restoration Group.

He recorded enormous success with just Assistants, Hassan Usman Datti and Aliyu Abdullahi. While it lasted, it was clear he wasn’t giving a hoot on who gets the reward for the work done.

His belief on the CHANGE political ideology was uncompromising that he dedicated a huge chunk of his time defending and selling the CHANGE agenda of President and Governor Masari the success of which lead to his appointment as the pioneer Senior Special Assistant (SSA) New Media in Katsina State by Governor Aminu Bello Masari. His excellent performance in that capacity still speaks for him.

Maiwada’s subsequent appointment as Special Assistant (Political) by a political giant, social justice crusader and front row CHANGE agent, Barr. Solomon Dalung (then freshly appointed as Minister of Youth and Sports Development) says more than enough to prove the quality and reliability of Maiwada Dammallam.

His appointment by Barr. Dalung created a vacuum in Katsina State subsequently lead to our emergence as Special Assistants (SAs) — a position once held by a single person is now distributed to more than 4 people. This goes a long way to confirm the efficiency of Dammallam. I can say, without fear of contradiction that he single handedly secured me the appointment. That’s by the way.

The news of Maiwada’s promotion to the position of Chief of Staff by then Minister Dalung sort of certified his reliability and far reaching tentacles. For Dalung, a Tarok from Jos, Plateau State to appoint Maiwada, a Fulani from Katsina, his Chief of Staff it says many things from their belief in one Nigeria to their confidence in Buhari and his CHANGE agenda.

It is while he was serving as aide to Governor Masari that I tested Maiwada’s fairness and uprightness first hand. Out of nowhere, an allegation popped up from nowhere with potentials to smear my good name and reputation. Something that never happened was concocted and my name attached to it as it normally happens within the corridors of power.

Without proper investigation or at least, hearing my side of the story, I declared guilty as charged. Maiwada called me from Abuja and asked for my side of the story which we discussed at length. Convinced of my innocence, he came to Katsina and presented my case and eventually proved my innocence to the anger and disbelief of the authors of the mischief.

If courage had a face, it would be the man they call Maiwada Dammallam. A principled, focused and erudite pen artist. A loyal man to a fault. Maiwada Dammallam is a confluence of simplicity and stubbornness. His stubbornness is a virtue and not a vice though.

It is an expression of his merit based and principle centred life. He is bold, fearless and courageous enough to defend his actions at any level. He is a perfect example of what we should all strive to be. A truly humble human being, passionate in life, fierce in competition and has an insane drive to always be learning and bettering himself.

He does not suffer fools gladly and does not brook mediocrity or sloppiness. A stickler for panache, Ma’aji wears his heart on his sleeve, because you always know where you are with him on any given matter.

These were ideals he held dear to his heart and for which people could easily wormed their way into his affections. He is a lesson in honesty, hard work, integrity, patriotism and respect. Maiwada Dammallam, now a venerated elder and great son of Malumfashi would, undoubtedly continue to be a good ambassador to Katsina State in general and Malumfashi in particular.

A thrifty businessman, civil servant, writer, welfarist, philanthropist and a man of sartorial elegance known for his bare it all articles and firm stand on truth and his beliefs. In a world filled with self-absorbed Buharist, one brave, slightly less self-absorbed Buharist had the balls to speak truth to power—and his name is Maiwada Dammallam the newly turbaned Ma’ajin Galadiman Katsina.

May Allah SWT bless his tenure with success.

Allah ya tsare Ma’aji da tsarewarsa. Amin.

Allah Yaja zamanin Galadiman Katsina
