Katsina Police command rescue 22-year-old girl kidnapped on gunpoint in Keke NAPEP

Policemen from the Katsina State Police Command have rescued a 22-year-old girl, Firdaus Magaji, who was kidnapped on January 12, 2020.

The rescue operation which took place on Wednesday followed a report that a gang of kidnappers operating in a commercial tricycle abducted the girl.

Until her abduction, Magaji who resides in the Shagari Low-Cost Housing Estate area, Katsina, was on her way to an evening outing.

In an interview with journalists in her local Hausa language at the state police headquarters, she noted that she boarded a commercial tricycle at Kofa Kwaya area also within Katsina.

She said no sooner had she joined the tricycle than one of the occupants pointed a knife at her while another one showed her a gun.

According to her, the tricycle operator then turned off from the main road before the two occupants blindfolded her.

She further explained that she was taken to several places before the police rescued her around 10pm on Wednesday.

The victim, however, said her abductors neither molested nor maltreated her throughout her time in their captivity, adding that said she was unable to sleep out of fear of what might happen to her.

A spokesman for the state police command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident but said no one had been arrested in connection.

Isah said, “On January 12, 2020, a gang of kidnappers operating in a commercial tricycle kidnapped a 22-year-old girl, Firdausi Magaji. The kidnappers demanded N2m ransom from her parents to ensure her release.

“Upon the receipt of the information on the kidnap, our SARS team led by SP Adolphus Andrew swung into action and tracked the movements of the kidnappers. But the kidnappers were switching locations.

“On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, around 10.30pm, the team traced the kidnappers and the girl to a place at Barawa area, outskirts of Katsina. The team had a gun duel with the kidnappers who eventually ran away and left the girl behind.

“After our team rescued the girl, we took her to a hospital for medical attention. Thank God, the kidnappers did not hurt her.”

Firdausi’s father, Mallam Magaji, who was at the police headquarters on Thursday, expressed gratitude to the officers and men of the command for rescuing his daughter.

Magaji also confirmed that the kidnappers demanded N2m ransom in exchange for Firdausi’s release, adding that the kidnappers were not given any money.
