Residents of Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State are fleeing to neighboring communities for safety as a result of incessant attacks and kidnappings by armed bandits on different occasions, The Nation reports.

The residents said the area has witnessed 29 cases of armed attack, kidnapping and cattle rustling in December 2019 alone, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to bring the situation under control.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, the spokesman of Dutsin-Ma Youth Forum, Alh. Abu Abubakar Dutsin-Ma, said residents of the area are living in palpable fear, as security agencies in the state appear helpless, stressing that the situation has reached an unimaginable proportion.

The group warned that if the Federal Government fails to intervene urgently, the people might resort to self-defense, noting that such a move may further worsen the security challenges in the country.

Abubakar blamed the state government for the spate of insecurity, noting that the cease-fire deal reached with the bandits has not yielded any result.

A Facebook user, Usman Maigarin Mara listed the details of the attacks with a date as outlined below:

  1. It’s true the spate of armed banditry has reached an unimaginable proportion and the govt has developed a lackadaisical attitude just because of the shoddy agreement it has reached with the bandits. It’s happening in Matazu and Musawa Local Govt Areas almost on daily basis. People are highly threaten due to the deteriorating situation of the security.
