Police in Katsina arrest 20 year old man sex with 7-year-old girl

One Abubakar Muhammed, 20, of the Kanyan Bango village in the Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, has appeared before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl Punch reports.

Abubakar was alleged to have defiled the girl at the Fulawa village, also in the same local government area.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Kabiru Muhammed, told the court that the victim was attending to her father’s herd of goats in a nearby bush when Abubakar swooped on her, dragged her further inside the bush and sexually molested her.

The victim’s father, Halilu Shittu, lodged a complaint about the incident at the Musawa Police Station, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The police said Abubakar confessed to have committed the crime during interrogation.

He has been charged with the offence of rape contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.

During the court proceedings on Thursday, the police prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable the police conclude investigation.

The presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, granted the request and adjourned the case to January 16, 2020, for mention.

She directed that Abubakar be remanded in a correctional facility till then.

Similarly, a 37-year-old man, Nura Idris, has been arraigned before the court for alleged armed robbery.

The police said Idris, armed with a knife, forcefully entered the house of one Innocent Orji in Jibia and robbed him of N30,000 and a motorcycle valued at N80,000.

The police told the senior magistrates’ court that the money and the motorcycle were recovered from the suspect during investigation.

Idris is standing trail for the offence in line with the provisions of sections 6(b) and 2(a)(b) of the Armed Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act, Cap RII,2004, LFN.

Dikko adjourned the case till January 21, 2020, for mention and directed that Idris should continue to enjoy his bail until then.
