Restoration Agenda: Gov Masari seek support from British High Commission

Governor Aminu Bello Masari has emphasized the need for donor agencies to complement efforts of the state government to reduce poverty among the populace.

Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari made the remarks when he paid a visit to the DFID office at the British High Commission in Abuja.

The Governor told the diplomats that the APC administration had the state Agenda of restoring the lost glory of socio-economic sectors.

Alhaji Aminu Masari reminded the DFID officials that katsina used to be topmost in education in the country but when he took over in 2015 that glory in education had been lost.

He said the majority of the sectors such as health and agriculture were in a comatose as at that time, stressing that with good education, most of the societal ills being experienced today like banditry, cattle rustling, kidnappings, and armed robbery could be overcome.

The Governor explained that education could help the government to reduce health indices such as maternal and infant morbidity.

Governor Aminu Masari further emphasized his agenda to revive the lost glory of the sectors through increased budgetary allocation with priority in the education, health, agriculture, water resources, and security.

In the 2020 budget, he said the state government allocated 18 and 19 percentages to the education and health sectors.

Alhaji Aminu Masari assured the determination of the government to boost internally generated revenue-IGR.
The Governor reiterated the Willingness of the present APC administration to widen the partnership with Development Partners and DFID in particular in providing succor to the people of Katsina state through a well-meaning engagement.

He also assured DFID officials that his administration had openness and transparency.

Responding, the Head of DFID, Mr. Christopher Pycroft accompanied by some members of his team informed Governor Masari that DFID needed to review its engagement with the states in the federation.

Mr. Christopher Pycroft said DFID would henceforth assist and support state governments that are ready for better outcomes and reduce poverty among the people.

He assured Governor Masari that DFID would support the Katsina state government to implement poverty alleviation Programmes in the state.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari was accompanied during the visit to the British High Commission by special Adviser on international relations, commissioner of health, that of finance and special Adviser on investment.
