Governor Aminu Bello Masari has observed that the workforce actually deserves a new minimum wage.

Addressing the fifth state quadrennial delegates conference of medical and health workers union of Nigeria at katsina motel conference Hall, Governor Aminu Masari explained that inflation and other economic leakages had eaten into the old minimum wage.

The Governor however requested union leaders not to view wage agitations as their sole responsibility to the workforce.

He reminded the unionists that governments could only give what they have, adding that there was need to show maturity in their agitations.

Alhaji Aminu Masari reminded the medical and health workers that what should be of Paramount importance is the patient in the hospital, adding that to save the life of a patient would be better than huge amounts in the pockets of a medical worker.

He also reminded them that they have reward in this world and the hereafter.

Reward in this world he said was because a patient helped by a nurse would forever not forget such a worker no matter how time flies, stressing that if needs be such a patient would definitely reciprocate such a gesture.

The Governor emphasized that there was need for labour leaders to contribute towards ensuring the emergence of good governance through their activities.

According to him, the state and the country had never been short of “big men”, saying that what was lacking is good leaders.

Earlier, the state chairman of the medical and health workers union of Nigeria, comrade Hussaini Hamisu told the gathering that the conference was an opportunity to review the performance of the union in the last four years and to elect new leadership of the union following the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent.

Comrade Hussaini Hamisu said the conference has as its theme”Advancing National campaign towards good governance, poverty alleviation and’health for all’ for Development.”

He used the occasion to commend the Governor for the transformation of the health sector in the state.

The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour congress-NLC and his counterpart from the State chapter of Nigeria union of local government employees-NULGE presented Goodwill messages to the delegates conference.
