Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita decries poor funding of Tertiary Institutions

The Chairman, Senate committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Sen Ahmad Babba Kaita (APC, Katsina North) has decried poor funding of tertiary institutions in the country.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Personal Assistant to Senator Babba Kaita on media, Mallam Abdulkadir Lawal.

Speaking during an interactive meeting with stakeholders in the country education sector at the senate, he said the funding gap must be looked into to address the challenges bedevilling the education sector.

Kaita, while stressing the need for collective efforts in addressing the challenges facing education sector, said the ninth Senate will work hard to come up with policy document that will help in tackling the challenges in the sector.

For his part, Minister of Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said policy inconsistency was hampering the growth of sector.

He said the federal government will do everything humanly possible to ensuring adequate funding to revamp the sector.

Also speaking, Prof Sulaiman Bagoro- Executive Secretary TETFUND, said proliferation of Universities that requires TETFUND intervention very worrisome.

He also stressed the need for effective utilisation of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by tertiary institutions to address paucity of funds.
