Katsina State to begin ‘9 classes system’ in Primary schools

The Katsina State Government has approved the introduction of a pilot programme to conduct Junior Secondary Classes in 68 (2 per each L.G.E.A) selected Primary Schools across the 34 Local Education Authorities in the State.

This is to fully implement the 9 year basic education and tackle School dropout at Primary School level as well as ensure 100% transition into Junior Secondary Schools.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Halima Lawal Othman yesterday during a joint meeting with the Management of the Ministry, Coordinators of Zonal Education Quality Assurance, officials of Universal Basic Education Board and UBEC officials as well as the Education Secretaries of the 34 Local Government Areas across the State.

According to her, the purpose of the meeting among others is to discuss the level of preparedness for the forthcoming 2019/2020 academic session. The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the new academic session begins on Monday 23rd September, 2019.

Hajiya Halima stressed that preparations for admission of Primary Six Pupils into Junior Secondary Schools are almost concluded to meet the resumption date.

She said the traditional interview normally conducted for the Primary School Candidates going to Junior Secondary School one (JSS one) has been abolished.

She called on all Coordinators of zonal education quality assurance and Education Secretaries to establish a workable synergy for smooth and effective takeoff of the pilot programme in the State.

The Permanent Secretary urged all the Students in the State to report to School on the official resumption date on Monday 23rd September, 2019.

She advised Parents to ensure that their Children/Wards adhere strictly to the official resumption date.

  1. This 9 Classes system is a very good attempt to ensure retention and completion at Basic Education Sub- Sector in Katsinna. I hope this will continue even after Masari’s regime.
