Nigerians Are Watching You, Group Tells Katsina Tribunal
Tribunal: Group accuses Masari of exploring means to defeat Lado at all cost
As parties await judgment of the governorship election petition in Katsina, a non-governmental organisation-Democracy and Transparency Network (DTN)-, has accused Governor Aminu Bello Masari of working behind the scenes to defeat his rival, Senator Yakubu Lado at the tribunal.
The group also urged the tribunal to be guided by the dictates of the legal profession and the facts presented before them.
Recall that the opposition PDP and its governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado, had approached the tribunal where they are challenging the election of Katsina state governor, Aminu Bello Masari.
Although parties to the petition have presented their facts before the tribunal and are awaiting the final verdict, DTN, in a statement made available to newsmen, raises the alarm of alleged subtle moves to influence the tribunal even as it enjoined relevant stakeholders to be vigilant.
According to the statement which was signed by Abubakar Saidu, the group tasked the tribunal to be mindful of its action stressing that ‘Nigerians and more specifically, the good people of Katsina state, are keenly watching”.
It accused some agents of the state government of “desperately seeking to subvert the natural flow of justice and alleged that the state resources were being fritter away all in a bid to get favourable verdict and sustain the inept leadership currently taking place in the state”.
While decrying the rising insecurity in the state, DTN said leadership in the state has failed to focus its attention in the right place, rather, “is busy exploring means of getting justice at all cost, from the tribunal”.
