Police narrate how 2 policemen in Zamfara Gov convoy died in Katsina
The Katsina state Police Command has called on the general public to disregard rumour that the convoy of the Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle was attacked which resulted to the death of two police men.
This is contained in a statement signed by SP Gambo Isa, the command spokesman, and made available to newsmen including Katsina Post.
According to the statement, the police said the death of the police men was due to a fatal accident that occurred at Unguwar Ali, Sheme village in Faskari local government area.
The statement reads, “…there was a Fatal Motor vehicle accident exactly at Unguwar Ali, Sheme village, Fasakari LGA of Katsina, involving the Police Escort vehicle attached to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara state and a Gulf III, Volkswagen motor vehicle, with registration number GUS 82 SF, driven by one Abubakar NASIRU, M, aged 30yrs of Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara state. The accident occurred when the Gulf III driver tried to overtake another vehicle and as result of which he had a head on collusion with on coming police escort vehicle”
Gambo Isa noted that “two police men were declared dead at Funtua General Hospital, Katsina while four others including the Gulf III driver sustained serious injuries and were admitted same hospital”
While calling on the general public to disregard the rumour as baseless and untrue, the Command stated that it “…will continue to hold the Media in high esteem as a veritable partner in the fight against banditry and other forms of crime and criminality”
The statement, however, called on practicing journalists not not allow “…their esteem publications be used to publish falsehood capable of misinforming and misleading the public.
