Katsina: 15,000 people benefit from SMEDAN programs under Dikko Umar Radda

“Give man a fish feed him for a day, teach man how to fish you feed him for life”

Dr. Dikko Umar Radda
D.G. SMEDAN
“Think Big start Small”

The Smedan Establishment Act 2013, conferred the D.G. with the responsibility of growth and sustainability of MSME’s accros the Country. The DG has kept up to that expectation and has commendably moved MSMEs to greater heights across the Nation. Thanks to his capable leadership and foresight!

Notwithstanding, Dr. Radda as a true son of Katsina state he is up and doing, ensuring the people of Katsina state are not left behind. He works endlessly in promoting programmes that will in fact the lives of the less privileged in the state. The beneficiaries of these programmes are the most deserving members of the society, both educated and uneducated in Informal and Formal Businesses. Dr. Radda, Gentleman per excellence, since his assumption into office has ensured not fewer than 15,000 beneficiaries from Katsina State benefited from the SMEDAN programmes. These beneficiaries have been trained with various skills and have been empowered with various startups capital to start harnessing the fruits of the various programmes.

The pilot of conditional grant (1st phase) katsina was a program where over 500 beneficiaries benefited. A good number of the beneficiaries have improved their livelihoods and are developing new narratives as a result of the grant.

On the other hand, OLOP (One Local Government One Product programme), is a program that will cut accros all the 774 LGAs of the country. This programme was piloted in LGAs of 5 states, and in Katsina State, Kayuki, the hub of Kilishi, was included.

The Kilishi cooperative society has been modernized and equipped with modern machines to improve the standards of the product and expand its market far beyond Katsina State. Other programs include skill acquisition trainings, Entrepreneurship development trainings, e-business training among others.

Currently, several awareness programs are ongoing for CBN/SMEDAN soft loans, which is set to disburse 1 to 10 million Naira to Emerging Entrepreneurs with Entrepreneurial mindset.

The loan is payable in 7 years with one digit interest rate. This loan is also applicable to both existing and new businesses without any requirement for collateral except for the training and certification from SMEDAN as well as a bankable document (Business plan).

Putting these all together, I am optimistic not fewer than 15,000 persons or group of persons today in katsina have been positively affected and are able to secure a means of livelihood (through either Medium or Micro business).

Going by this Figure, one can summarize that Dr. Radda has through his good office inpacted on average 440 persons in each local government of katsina State, in just 3years in office. This is addition to his dream to set up an average of 3 successful small businesses in each of the 34 local government areas before leaving office.

Lastly, I will like to seek this medium to remind katsinawa to harness the opportunity of the CBN/SMEDAN soft loan available at their doorstep to start up new businesses or expand the existing ones. Don’t be left out!
