Katsina Assembly reduces tenure of elected LG chairmen to 2 years
The Katsina State House of Assembly have make some amendments to the Katsina State Local Governments law reducing the tenure of elected chairmen to two years among others.
Below is the amendments:
The New Katsina State Local Govt Law As Amended Today By Katsina State House of Assembly
Law No 4.
Where any member of the transition committee including the chairman commits any act of misconduct or is ineffient in the discharge of his duties; The Governor SHALL
A – Subject to the resolution of simple majority of the house remove him from office; OR
B – Upon a recomendation of the house by a resolution of two-third majority of the members, such chairman or member be removed from office , the Governor SHALL accordingly remove him.
Law No 5.
Any caretaker member including the chairman appointed under this law who is interested in contesting the election shall resign from office not later than three months prior to the election.
Moreover, Law No 15 of 2017 is amended by substituting the words “three years” with the words “two years”
