Katsina bandits’ leader invites journalist to their camp, gave him message to gov’t
From Lawal Sa’ idu Funtua, Katsina
Leader of bandits operating within the Southern axis of Katsina State and some parts of Kaduna State, Alhaji Idris Miyaya has disclosed that the bandits are tired of the bloodshed within those areas.
The leader disclosed this in an interview with People’s Daily correspondent shortly after a peace meeting with communities in Dungun Mu’azu area in Sabuwa local government area of Katsina State.
The meeting which took place at the bandits camp in Dankolo village has in attendance leaders of the area and the vigilante Commander of Dandume Local Government Area, Alhaji Lawal Tsoho Albasu.
“We realized that we are fighting a meaningless war. It is a war that destroyed our relationship with the rest of the communities in these areas. And the reality is that we cannot exist in isolation. We must therefore find a way of ending this madness,” he said.
Miyaya therefore assured farmers in the area to return to their farms as according to him, “ we will make a deal with the vigilantes in the area that nobody will harass or attack us or our families.”
According to him, the bandits are ready to enter into dialogue with government, alleging that the past dialogue initiated by Katsina State Government, some groups according to him were not captured.
For permanent peace to reign in the area, the leader appealed to the government to facilitate the release of their two elders, Alhaji Lawal Baldu and Alhaji Ibrahim Nakutama who have been in detention for the past two years.
Responding the Dandume Vigilante leader, Alhaji Lawal Tsoho has assured them of their safety if they embrace peace.
