Katsina gov’t spent N291m on procurement of 3 new water pumping machines

The Katsina State Government has spent N291m on the procurement and installation of three new water pumping machines for the Ajiwa Water Works for the supply of water to the metropolis and environs, Commissioner for Water Resources, Salisu Dandume, has said.

Speaking yesterday after appearing before the state house of assembly that summoned him over water scarcity in the state, he said two of the machines had been installed and would begin operation in the next two weeks.

While pleading with residents to exercise patience, Dandume said water scarcity would be a thing of the past in the state.

Deputy Speaker Shehu Tafoki said the assembly was concerned about the lingering water scarcity in the state.

Recall that the Katsina State House of Assembly earlier last week summoned the state Commissioner for Water Resources and the Managing Director of State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) over water scarcity across the state.

Their invitation by the House followed the resolution on a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Honourable Hambali Faruk, member representing Katsina constituency over the acute water shortage in the state.
