Insecurity: We may likely experience food scarcity – Governor Masari

The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has expressed his fears over what he termed as food scarcity that may befall the people of Katsina State and other states currently being affected by the current trend of insecurity if nothing tangible from the side of the security is done to curtail the situation in 30 days time to come.

The Governor made this assertion while fielding questions from BBC Hausa correspondents over the phone late during last week.

According to the Governor, “Except the security agents currently undergoing several operations in the war-turned zone do something serious that will give the peasant farmers currently displaced by the armed banditry confidence and move back to their localities and farms before the raining season commence, there will surely be a scarcity of food.”

The Governor also explained the measures his government both in solitary and in collaboration with other neighboring states of Kaduna, Zamfara, and Sokoto is doing to bring the situation under control.

According to him, his administration together with the security agencies in the state has banned the selling of petrol in jerrycans in the affected areas and already some arrests of defaulters were made.
