Gallant immigration officers arrest 3 human traffickers, 5 victims in Katsina

The Immigration Service officers attached to Katsina State Command has on Tuesday paraded some arrested three suspected human traffickers and their five victims.

The suspects are Emeka Okaeri, 39; Obumese Obi, 40, both from Imo State and Obinna Emmanuel, 30, an indigene of Abia State while the victims are Emmanuel Justina, 31, from Abia state; Ugochukwu Chilaka, 28, from Imo State; Okike Daniel, 28, from Imo State; Daniel Chinoso, 24, from Abia State, and Francis Hilary, 29, from Delta State.

The State Comptroller of the Immigration Service in Katsina, Mr. Olusola Ajisafe, told journalists at the commad’s headquaters that the command’s operatives apprehended the eight persons at Kongolam control post and Farin Gida patrol base, along Daura axis, Katsina.

According to him, the suspects intended to cross to Niger Republic and from there to Libya.

Ajisafe said their investigation into the matter revealed that Okaeri who had been in Libya for the past nine years, is a frequent traveler between Nigeria, Niger Republic, and Libya.

The NIS Comptroller added that Okaeri represented a cartel based in Libya and Nigeria, which specialized in human trafficking.

He further explained that Okaeri revealed to detectives that two of the rescued victims, Justina and Chinoso, were introduced to him by a Libya resident, who sponsored the ladies’ trip.

The Immigration service boss added that Emmanuel and Obi were apprehended at Farin Gida patrol base while allegedly trying to smuggle Hilary.

Emmanuel reportedly had in his possession a travel passport with two Libyan visas and residency permit.

Obi was said to have convinced Hilary that there were good job opportunities in Libya.
