Statistically, there are over 13.2 Million out of school children in Nigeria among which 9 Million are reported to be Almajiri Children.

There is no doubt, insurgency, armed conflict, generalized violence or human rights violations, according to Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) led to the displacement of thousands of people especially in the northern part of Nigeria rendering many children vulnerables especially those who lost their parents and relatives.

So, it is imperative to know that amongst these 9 Million Almajiri Children; a score number of them are orphaned children with no parents nor relatives and left in the hand of the government and society for solace.

THE BIG QUESTION IS “What measures would you employ to cater for the NEEDS of these vulnerable children when you BAN the Almajiri System”?

Yes, it is a fact that parents must and have to step up to their responsibilities in taking care of children they brought into this world. And through campaigns and sensitization we can enlighten these parents to understand the power of human connection attached to parental love, hence the need to keep their children with them at all time.

But for those Almajiri Children with no one to lean on – especially the parents, their only solace is us – the government and the society. We must therefore collectively come together and provide a model that would render these children useful members of our society. Failure of which will result to many social ill that we will all regret in no distant time.
