Shema: The Travails of A Committed PDP Leader – By Salisu Uli
His Excellency, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema CON, FNIM has of recent been subject of attack by a group of some faceless elements who normally carry out their attacks through proxies. Their apparent reasons for attack however is the performance of the PDP particularly at the Gubernatorial elections.
The view being promoted is that Shema was instrumental to fielding Yakubu Lado as the Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP and that he did not work very well towards the realisation of the mandate.
This opinion is faulty and very unfair. Infact it smacks of hypocrisy for anyone not to lay bare on the table the processes that saw Senator Yakubu Garba Lado emerged as the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate.
The process started during one of the Party’s Advisory Committee meetings in Kaduna Prior to the Primary elections. When the decision to go for the pre primary elections selection process came up, all the seven Gubernatorial aspirants were present together with major stakeholders of the Party. Infact the idea to go for the selection process was initiated by one of the aspirants who has been suggesting and nursing that idea to the extent of even posting it on social media platforms.
Having agreed to the selection process, modalities were set and a date was fixed. During the selection process 86 State Executive Committee Party Members participated in which Senator Yakubu Lado emerged winner with 56 Votes, H Abdullahi Garba Faskari scored 16, Sada Ilu scored 4, Nashuni 2, Kofa 2, Tata 2 and Ahmed Aminu scored 1 in absentia.
However Architect Ahmed Aminu Yar’Adua protested and took his case to the State Working Committee in which he was assured of free and fair Primary elections. He again lost the Primary elections to Senator Yakubu Lado.
Having presented this background, where did Shema erred?
After this Tata, Sada Ilu and Nashuni left for APC.
Those that remained in collaboration with some few members of the Advisory Committee resolved to work for the Success of the Presidential Candidate alone. Does this potray them as real Party men? Did they even work for the successes of the Presidential Candidate? Of the over 308,000 votes the Candidate scored what was their contribution? Is there any one of them who delivered his polling unit and Ward during the Presidential elections?
Ibrahim Shema and the Majority PDP members worked very hard to realise the Over 308,000 and over 488,000 votes for the Presidential and Governorship candidates respectively.
Was it not for the massive rigging in Katsina State perpetrated by the APC we would have won the Gubernatorial elections. Compare States like Sokoto winning the Governorship elections with over 512,000 votes. Gombe, Kwara, Plateau, Benue etc won Governorship elections with less than the votes scored by the Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP in Katsina State. When you compare our performance with that of the 2015 elections, this is by far better.
If you want us to believe Katsina is lost because of Shema, then ask yourself did Sule Lamido win in Jigawa? Did Makarfi, Namadi and Yero win in Kaduna? Did Saraki and Abdufatah a sitting Governor win in Kwara? Did Dankwanbo win in Gombe. Did Babangida Muazu win in Niger?
So please do not justify your antiparty activities by villifying and castigating the PDP leader and the PDP leadership. If anything you should either tender an unreserved apology to the PDP or call it quits. You cannot be claiming PDP at the same time wining and dining with Masari and APC. The script to destroy PDP would never see the light of the day in Sha Allah.
