The acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, Abuja, over the banditry and kidnapping ravaging Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, Kaduna and Kogi states.

Punch correspondent learnt that the IG and the DSS chief met with the air chief to discuss the deployment of air arsenals to parts of the country witnessing the security challenges, including the notorious Abuja-Kaduna Highway and the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari Road.

The air force in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said  the NAF promised to assist the police and the DSS with “air assets to conduct air support missions and increase air reconnaissance in the affected areas.”

The NAF spokesman said, “The IG and the DSS DG on arrival at the NAF headquarters immediately went into a closed-door meeting with the CAS before undertaking a guided tour of facilities.

“The IG expressed delight and satisfaction with the cutting edge technologies and sophisticated computer software at the centres. He said the essence of the visit to the Chief of the Air Staff was to explore possibilities of using the NAF air assets to deal with issues of kidnapping and banditry.”
