INEC clear 18 Katsina Governorship, 316 state assembly candidates for Saturday’s election
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Katsina State has on Wednesday commenced the transportation and subsequent distribution of sensitive materials for Saturday’s governorship and the House of Assembly elections to various LGAs of Katsina State.
The commission said no fewer than 18 candidates would be contesting the governorship election in the state while 316 candidates would vie for the 34 seats in the state House of Assembly.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Jibril Zarewa, confirmed the development to journalists at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Katsina where the loading of the items for onward dispatch to their various destinations was being done.
The items included ballot papers, ward collation papers and forms for the display of results in polling units.
The loading of items, which began at about 11am, was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
The REC explained that apart from tracking the vehicles being used for the distribution of the items, adequate security arrangements had been made for the safety of the items in various locations they were being taken to.
Among the popular gubernatorial candidates are Governor Aminu Bello Masari, the current governor of Katsina State of the APC and Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke of the PDP.
