Just In: Cattle rearer arrested for killing farmer in Danmusa


One Ibrahim Ilu, 35-year-old cattle rearer from Malami village of the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, is currently facing charges of culpable homicide and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, Punch reports.

According to our sources, some officers of the police in arrested him on February 1, 2019, almost two years after he allegedly shot and killed a farmer, Sada Salisu.

Salisu was reportedly working on his farm when Ilu invaded the place and allegedly grazed his herd of cattle on the farm.

The cattle reportedly damaged the beans and guinea corn planted on the farm, prompting Salisu to challenge Ilu.

According to the police, Ilu allegedly brought out an AK-47 rifle with number NH 9634 and shot Salisu.

The victim was then rushed to the General Hospital, Danmusa, where he was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2017.

Ilu was said to have escaped until he was caught on February 1, 2019, at the Dayi Market in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.

The police are relying on sections 221 of the Penal Code Law and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, LFN, 2004, to prosecute the suspect.

The suspect was remanded in the Katsina Prison custody till March 27, 2019, when his case will come up for mention at the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court presided over by Hajiya Fadila Dikko.
