Police in Katsina has arraigned a middle-aged man, Ibrahim Jaji, and four others for the alleged murder of one Abdulkadir Hamma who is the village head of Birchi in the Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Ibrahim Jaji who is a farmer and a resident of Birchi, according to the police was said to be on their wanted list for the alleged murder of the village head until nemesis caught up with him during the week.
The case of the other suspects, Lawal Abdurrahman, Ibrahim Ali, Ibrahim Ziri and Ibrahim Yalle, is expected to come up for mention before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on March 26, 2019.
They will be charged under sections 98,397 and 221 of the Penal Code.
Abdulrahman and Ali were initially arraigned before the magistrates’ court before the case was adjourned to March 26, while Ziri, Jaji and Yalle were not present in court at the last sitting.
Jaji, who is the fourth accused person, was arrested shortly after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He was remanded in prison custody by the presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko.
The police told the court that Abdulrahman was arrested in connection with the murder following his threat to his wife, Halima.
He had threatened to invite members of his gang from the Rugu Forest to deal with her father over a domestic issue.
Abdulrahman allegedly admitted to his wife that his gang members murdered the village head of Birchi.
The suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he conspired with the four gang members to kill the village head.
