Group petitioned Katsina INEC commissioner over ‘skewed’ ad-hoc staff recruitment

A group, the Concerned Citizens of Katsina State has petitioned the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission in Katsina State, Ibrahim Zarewa over the recruitment of Ad-hoc staff in the State.

The petition signed by the chairman of the group Comrade Muhammad Yahuza and three others and gotten by Katsina Post alleged that the list of Ad-hoc staff the commission short-listed to serve as Presiding officers (Pos) and Assistant presiding officers (APOs) pasted at the 34 LGAs of Katsina state on Friday, 15th February 2019 is full of discrepancies, malpractices, and irregularities.

Some of the irregularities the petitioners listed include the replacement of the authentic list of the Ad-hoc staff with another list of names of people that did not participate in the three-day training conducted.

The group then demand that the state INEC revert to the earlier list because it contained the name of persons that were properly trained.

Recall that the training of the INEC ad-hoc staff in some local governments of the state was disrupted by angry youths who expressed their dissatisfaction with the INEC’s selection procedure pointing out that non-indigenes were giving priority while most of them from the local government that applied were not considered.
