Breaking: Gunmen launched fresh attacks on 3 Katsina communities, kill 1, abduct 16
Reports reaching us at Katsina Post has it that armed bandits have in the late night of yesterday, launched three different attacks in Batsari Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The first attack by the bandits claimed one life in Batsari town and six persons, including a nursing mother and her baby were also abducted without any trace of their whereabouts.
Shortly after the first attack, same bandits in fake army uniform, according to our sources struck in Shekwa village where they abducted nine people. The daredevils were also said to have kidnapped two people at Salihawa village in the area.
According to Leadership newspaper, the slain victim, identified as Nafiu Mai’ Walda, was on his way home from his workshop at Gidan Kifi Batsari, at about 7 pm when the hoodlums raiding his neighborhood shot him dead in his car.
The kidnappers have reportedly demanded N30m ransom for the six people abducted in Batsari Town. Some of the victims were identified as Mallam Malm, a primary school teacher; Hauwa, a nursing mother and her baby; Mallam Sadiku and Mallam Umar.
It was further gathered that the heavily armed hoodlums, operating on several motorcycles, seized about 50 bags of rice and four suspected smugglers who were on their way to Batsari at Shekwwa.
Contacted yesterday evening, the spokesman of the state police command, Isah Gambo, a superintendent of police, promised to call back after making contact with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Batsari but he could not be reached again as at press time.
