2019 elections: 461 candidates vying for 53 elective political offices in Katsina
A total of 461 candidates are vying for 53 different elective political offices in the 2019 general election in Katsina state.
A breakdown shows that 24 candidates are for the governorship, 90 for House of Representatives and 316 persons for the state House of assembly.
For the Senate, a total of 31 candidates are seeking for the three slots made up of 10 persons each for Katsina Central and North and 11 for Katsina South senatorial zone.
Speaking during the flag off of a three-day training of 490 Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPO’s) for the general election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa, said the commission was preparing diligently for the exercise.
According to him, the SPO’s are expected to exhibit a high sense of professionalism by being non-partisan noting that their roles in the election could make or mar the exercise.
He said a high level of honesty, transparency, and fairness was what was needed of them adding that “the performance of the SPOs would enhance the overall performance of the commission during the general elections”.
Arewa Trust reports that the state has a total of 3,251,927 registered voters.
