A 25-year old Nigerien, Nura Inusa, and his Nigerian accomplice, Rabiu Ahmadu, are now in police net in Katsina State following their arrest for drug trafficking, Punch reports.

They were allegedly found with 40 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

The suspects were arrested on Monday along the Kano-Daura-Republic of Niger Road by policemen on routine patrol.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesman, Gambo Isah, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects would be arraigned in court after investigation.

The statement made available to Northern City News read in part, “On November 26, around 10pm, based on a tip-off, the command succeeded in arresting a notorious syndicate that specialised in trans-border trafficking in Indian hemp.

“Nemesis caught up with the duo of Nura Inusa (25) of Maimujiya, Niger Republic, and one Rabiu Ahmadu (28) of Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State when they were arrested by gallant policemen attached to the Safer Highway Patrol, who were on routine check along Kano-Daura-Republic of Niger Road; the suspects were in possession of 40 sealed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

“Suspects confessed to the commission of the offence; investigation is ongoing.”
