Kankia Local government council to repair 50 broken down boreholes at a cost of N6 million naira, the Chairman of the Transition committee, Musa Maikudi has said.

Speaking shortly after inspecting the spare parts procured for the work, Maikudi assured the readiness of the council to put back the boreholes to use soonest.

According to him, the boreholes to be refixed cut across the 10 wards of the council and called on people to help safeguard them after the repairs.

Meanwhile, Matazu, the council chairman Kabir Faruk said he was considering the introduction of sanitary inspectors in the area.

Faruk said he was disturbed at the rising open defecation in the area and urged the residents to construct toilets in their homes for improved health.

He equally enjoined people to always ensure proper hygiene, such as hand washing, after using toilets.

He said improved sanitation among the residents of the area would ensure reduction in outbreak of diseases.
