Katsina APC congresses: Court set Nov 8 for continuation of case

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 8 for the reply of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the suit challenging the congresses of the APC in Katsina State, Daily Trust reports.

Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo, yesterday, adjourned the matter after criticizing the lack of diligent hearing of the matter following an application for adjournment by INEC counsel, Umar Bukar.

The suit was brought by two governorship aspirants of the APC in the state, Alhaji Garba Sani Dankani and Muhammad Sada Mainasara, who are asking the court to nullify, invalidate and set aside the purported congresses of the party held on May 12.

They are contending that the congresses in the wards, local governments and state levels did not comply with the provisions of Section 85(3) of the Electoral Act, 2010 and the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), 2014.

The aggrieved aspirants, led by their counsel, Ola Olanipekun (SAN), also wanted the court to restrain INEC from recognizing any person or group of individuals from holding themselves out as elected ward, LGA, or state executive committee members of the APC in the state pending the conduct of valid congresses in the state.
