Gallant immigration officers arrest human trafficker, rescues 3 victims in Katsina
The Nigerian Immigration Services Katsina state command has arrested one suspected trafficker and rescued three suspected victims along Kano-Katsina road.
Mr. Joshua Ajisafe, the command comptroller made the revelation while briefing newsmen on the arrest in his office.
According to him, the arrest was made as a result of intelligence report received by the command.
He said the suspected trafficker identified as Monday Adeoye Olampekun, 49 years an indegine of Ondo state was arrested in possession of ECOWAS travel certificate.
While the three suspected victims include; 28 years old Okafor Jovita, Female an indegine of Imo state, Anyanwu Victor Oduchukwu, 33 years old from Enugu state and Alajide Oluwatoyin, 26 years old indegine of Ondo state.
Mr. Ajisafe further noted that Monday Adeoye is a frequent traveller between Nigeria and Niger.
“Our Investigation revealed that Mr. Monday (The suspected trafficker) is in possession of ECOWAS Travel Certificate. His travel document shows that he is a frequent traveller between Nigeria and Niger Republic “. He said
The comptroller also indicates that Mr. Monday allegedly collected the sum of thirty thousand Naira (N30,000) from Miss Okafo’s agent as a payment to facilitate her trip to Niger republic for onward trip to Europe.
“Mr. Anyanwu and Mr. Alajide ( the suspected victims) contacted Mr. Monday on their intention of travelling to Europe which Mr. Monday requested them to pay the sum of one hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N160, 000) as part payment which they complied “.He said
He applauded the effort of Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Alhaji Muhammad Babandede for commissioning operational base in Katsina which according to him boosts the morale of the officers.
He however revealed that the suspect will soon be handed over to the service headquarters, Abuja for further interrogation.
