The Katsina state governor, Aminu Bello Masari has approved the establishment of Directorate of Medical Laboratory Services in the state.

Malam Mannir Aliyu, the chairman Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria Katsina state chapter disclosed this while addressing newsmen during shareholders meeting in Katsina.

He noted that the directorate will be established at all the state owned healths parastatals including Ministry of Healths, Hospital Service Management Board and State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

According to him, the state governor approved to post three directors to head the newly created medical laboratory department.

Mannir Aliyu further revealed that the Association and entire laboratorians of the state and local government is ever ready to supports Masari’s re-election bid in 2019 for creation of the long overdue directorate in the state.

“The creation of laboratory directorate will develop and upgrade laboratory services at an optimal standard with strategies to improve the quality of laboratory results through the implementation of laboratory based internal quality control and external quality assessment to be fully integrated in the various component of health sector.” He said

While acknowledging the effort of Honourable Commissioner for Healths, Dr. Mariyatu Bala Usman, the president of the association assured good quality laboratory services in the state through maintenance of laboratory standards acceptable nationally and internationally.
