– Aiteo Federation Cup: Katsina United, Rangers FC advanced to semifinal stage
Nigeria Professional Football League sides, Katsina United and Enugu Rangers won their quarter-final matches yesterday to progress to the semi-final of this year’s Aiteo Federation Cup, Daily Trust reports.
Due to Enyimba’s continental engagement with Raja Casablanca yesterday in Aba, only two matches were decided.
At the Kano centre, Enugu Rangers defeated defending champions Akwa United 4-2 on penalties after playing 1-1 in regulation time.
In Lagos, Katsina United defeated Kwara United 3-1 at the Agege township stadium to end their impressive run.
Reacting to his team’s victory, Chinedu Ajanah whose goal against Plateau United took Katsina United to Lagos, said it was a hard won victory.
He said players from both sides know one another very well which made the match to be a difficult one.
The Super Eagles Team B defender also said apart from the players, the technical advisers of Kwara United and Katsina United are friends and had worked together in Kogi United.
Ajanah therefore thanked God for making it possible for Katsina United to reach the semi-finals.
“Although we won 3-1, it was not an easy match. We laboured hard for the result.
“Both Kwara United and Katsina United have so many things in common. Our coaches are friends and friendships exist among most of the players.
“So it was a kind of happy reunion for us, especially former players of Niger Tornadoes who are now with either Kwara United or Katsina United.
“I am happy that we are now in the last four of this prestigious competition. Our target is to win the Cup so we are not going to rest on our oars,” he said.
Today, Nasarawa United will tackle El-Kanemi Warriors in the third quarter-final match in Aba, while Enyimba will battle Kano Pillars on Sunday at the Pantami stadium in Gombe in the last quarter-final match.
