A middle-aged man alleged to be a kidnapper, Yunusa Musa, is presently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State following gunshot injuries he sustained while trying to collect a ransom from the family of his victim.

Police sources said Musa had on Monday kidnapped his victim simply identified as Nana, a resident of Guga Bakori.

He reportedly demanded an undisclosed ransom and directed that the money should be dropped somewhere at Pauwa forest located within the council.

Spokesman for Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kankara, subsequently led a police patrol team to the forest to rescue the victim.

Musa reportedly sustained gunshot wounds while trying to escape.

Meanwhile, Nana had been reunited with her family.

Isah said, “On September 3, at about 1300hrs, based on a tip-off, patrol teams led by DPO Kankara rescued one Nana of Guga Bakori, a kidnapped victim whose ransom was about to be paid at Pauwa Forest, but was foiled due to the timely response of the police which led to the arrest of one Yunusa Musa who sustained a gunshot injury when he tried to escape while trying to evade police arrest.

“He is currently on treatment. “The rescued victim was taken to General Hospital, Kankara for medical checkup, and was thereafter reunited with her family.”

The police spokesman said investigation into the incident was in progress.
