The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Katsina State has been implored by the opposition party the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to offer an explanation on the N460 billion received from the federation account for the two tiers (state/local governments) from inception to date.

The PDP also demanded how these funds were spent, alleging that since the advent of the regime, “it has not commissioned a project worth N2 billion anywhere.”

Alhaji Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, the state PDP chairman gave the challenge on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Katsina.

“This is a government that preached openness and transparency, but has now turned to be so mean with information”, he stated, saying that, all the administration’s websites checked had no useful information as promised.

According to him, “we checked the Katsina State Government website and the recently opened one, owned by the Katsina Media and Publicity, there is no useful information, particularly on government statutory receipts of funds, grants, loans and their application as promised.”

On the alleged illegal constitution of caretaker committees for local governments, Majigiri said the dissolution of elected council officials on the 10th July 2015 is a gross violation of section 7 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

“We challenged this dissolution at the Katsina High Court and later appealed the unfavorable judgment at the Appeal Court Katsina which upheld the judgment of the lower court”, he said.

Hamza Borodo, the state information commissioner, while reacting, dismissed the PDP’s allegations, saying that, the opposition party PDP would normally cry wolve, where there is none.

“What do you expect from the opposition party? The party should substantiate their claims with facts and figures”, he added.
