The Katsina state command of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) from 17th July to date has arrested two suspected human traffickers and rescued eighteen suspected victims.
Mr. Ajisafe Josua Olusola, the comptroller of the command revealed this to newsmen while apprehending one suspected human trafficker, Mrs. Asia Rita along with seven suspected victims in his office.
According to him, the suspects were intercepted by the officers of the NIS at Jibia Magama Control Post.
Mr. Ajisafe further revealed that the suspected trafficker is in possession of residence visa of the state of Libya noting that the suspect is a frequent traveller.
“The victims are aged between 44-11 years and all are Nigerian citizens. 3 out of them are from Oyo state, 2 from Lagos state, 1 from Bayelsa State and 1 from Ogun state respectively “. He said
He said five of the suspected victims obtained their traveling documents on 25th of July, 2018 while the other two on 27th of July, 2018 respectively.
Similarly, the command also arrested one Mohammed Kabir (A Nigerienne) in possession of the 2 high grade cannabise trying to cross the Nigeria border to Niger republic.
“In another development, our officers on routine patrol along Babbar Riga intercepted one Mohammed Kabir (A Nigerienne) in possession of two high grade cannabise trying to cross the Nigeria border to Niger Republic through the illegal route”. He added
He said the suspected victims and traffickers will be handed over to NIS headquarters in Abuja while the Drug trafficker will be handed over to NDLEA for further interrogation.
Mr. Ajisafe however, commended the efforts of the Comptroller General of NIS, Alhaji Muhammad Babandede (MFR) for providing them with the necessary machinery for effective service delivery.
