A must read: 5 women that may redefine Katsina politics in 2019

Since the inception of the current political dispensation in 1999, it can be safe to say that women in Katsina State are largely in the back seat when it comes to politics and governance – 20 years down the line.

But political observers and pundits are of the opinion that things may change come 2019 as indications are showing that many women may slug it out all and compete for some elective positions.

The 2019 election year is already a few months away and here are some of the women in Katsina that are currently active in politics and many believe will contest:

1. Hajiya Zainab Ghana
She is a young lady believed to be in her late 20s to early 30s and she showed her interest in vying for Katsina State House of Assembly to represent Funtua Local Government.

She is an APC member and supporter of Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

2. Hajiya Binta Masari
It what looks like a major twist in the state’s politics, Hajiya Binta Aminu Bello Masari despite being wife to the Executive Governor of Katsina State, she is said to be reportedly nursing ambition to represent Katsina Federal Constituency.

3. Hajiya Bilkisu Muhammad Kai-Kai
A former Special Adviser to the Katsina ex-Governor Shema on Girls Child Education and a grass root mobilizer, ‘Mama marayu’ as she is nicknamed is believed to be eyeing the Kankia, Kusada, and Ingawa Federal Constituency seat.


She is a stunt PDP supporter.

4. Hajiya Binta Abba Umar

She hailed from Dutsin-ma Local government and is currently the Special Adviser to Governor Masari on Girls Child Education.
Though she is not being seen campaigning personally, many people believed to be her allies, friends, and relatives are actively campaigning for her underground.


She is said to be contesting for Dutsin-ma constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.

5. Hadiza Bala Usman
She is the daughter of the renown academician and scholar Dr. Bala Usman and the General Manager, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA). She is believed to be the woman holding the highest political post from Katsina.


Though she was born and brought up in the neighboring Kaduna State, she is said to be nursing the ambition of contesting the Musawa/Matazu ticket in the Federal House of Assembly.
