Commissioner laments trend of drug abuse among women, youths in Katsina

Katsina state Ministry of Women Affairs has reiterated its commitment to the fight against drug abuse amongst women and youths in the state.

The commissioner of women affairs, Dr. Badiyya Hassan Mashi disclosed this yesterday at the stakeholders meeting on the menace of drug abuse in Katsina state held at Multi-purpose women center, filing Samji in Katsina.

Dr. Badiyya revealed that the meeting was aimed to discuss the achievements made so far by the stakeholders in finding the lasting solution of the menace.

According to her, despite the effort being made by both Katsina gov’t and relevant agencies, drug abuse is increasing especially among women and youths.

“There is the need for the stakeholders to renew their commitments in preventing women from all social vices”.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the meeting will serve as an avenue to find the lasting solution to the threat.

In a remark, the former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Sadiq Abdullahi Mahuta charged Government to emphasize more on the fight against drug abuse.

The chairperson, Family support program, Dr. Halima Nuhu Daura described the menace as alarming and pledged total support for the fight against drug abuse in the state.

The stakeholders at the meeting include the representatives from NGO’s, NDLEA, DSS, Police, Nigerian Army, and Government officials.
