Three more bodies of victims of flood in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State have been discovered. This came a few hours after the body of a newly married lady, Hindatu Yahaya, was recovered at Mada-Rumfa town in Niger Republic, New Telegraph reports.

The new discoveries brought to 53 the number of persons so far killed by the flood.

Like Hindatu, the body of one of the victims was discovered in Niger Republic while two others were recovered from a collapsed building at Dan Tudu in Jibia town. Also, more relief materials from government and individuals have been delivered to the victims.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives yesterday resolved to send a delegation to Katsina State to commiserate with the people over Tuesday’s rainstorm and flood in Jibia.

This followed the adoption of a motion brought under matters of urgent national importance, by Hon. Salisu Salisco, who expressed regrets that 58 persons reportedly lost their lives, while 20 were still missing after the incident.

Consequently, the House observed a minute’s silence in honor of the victims, and also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials for the affected persons.

On the impact of the storm, Salisco said: “many houses were destroyed and more than 500 people have lost their homes and are using the primary schools as temporary shelter, while many have been hospitalized”.

He commended the urgent intervention of the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, as well as the Federal Government delegation, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, for the on-the-spot-assessment visit to the affected area.
