Rainstorm: Masari visit Jibia, shed tears as death toll hits 49

The death toll of Jibia flood has risen to 49 as more corpses are being un dug from demolished structures and water ways, The executive secretary of the state Emergency Agency Dr Aminu Waziri said

He said, 24 corpses that were washed away by water to neighbouring villages of Mada Runfa and Kuntumi in Niger Republic are been repatriated for proper burial.

Already this morning 25 have been buried and more bodies are been uncovered from collapsed structures adding that search and rescue team are on ground doing the best on the matter.

“We are presently resettling people at make shift camps in schools and government is supplying food items and medicals to the affected.

Meanwhile, the state governor Aminu Masari has visited the town and broke into tears when addressing the victims. Masari could not hold back tears seeing the devastation.

He had ordered for food and medicals support to the surviving people.

Daily Trust reports that a heavy rainfall accompanied with heavy winds started at about 11pm and lasted till 3am have rendered so many homeless.

Most affected areas are those living in Unguwar Kwa-kwa, Unguwar Mai Kwari, Tudun Takari both the new and old setllements as well as Dan Tudu.
