Katsina United dare Kano Pillars in biggest Northwest Derby

The biggest Northwest derby in the land is upon us as Katsina United square up against hosts Kano Pillars in one of the NPFL match day 21 fixtures at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

No doubt, this will be a testy derby going by the local interest it has already generated.

More so, it’s a battle between second and third on the league table.

Katina United will be going to this game on the back of their 1 – 0 crucial victory over the league champions Plateau United last week at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Pillars on the other hand will be going into this encounter after their 1 – 1 draw away at Heartland, which will serve as all important tonic needed before squaring off against their local rivals.

‘The Changi Boys’, who have amassed just two points on the road thus far this season, will hope to upset the home team when they visit a packed Sani Abacha Stadium.
Katsina United head coach Abdullahi Biffo told www.fckatsinaunited.com that Sani Abacha Stadium is a difficult ground to pick points, but remains confident his boys can get the job done.
“We are mentally, psychologically and physically ready for the game,” he said.
“Even though Sani Abacha Stadium is a difficult ground to pick points, I am still very optimistic that my boys can get the job done.”
He added that his boys will have to be at their best to grind out a positive result in Kano.
“Yes, nothing is impossible in the world of football. If they can come to Katsina and force us to a 2 – 2 draw, who said we can’t go to Kano and beat them?
“But to achieve that, we have to be at our best because I believe that we can beat any team if we are at our best.”

Katsina United will again rely on mercurial midfielder Destiny Ashadi and Martins Usule, the team’s highest goal scorer, to fire them to a result in Kano

Kano Pillars, on their own part, will bank on the NPFL current highest goal scorer Junior Lokosa with 16 goals and one of the league most experienced players Rabiu Ali to put away ‘The Changi Boys’.

Katsina United assistant captain Usman Barau will miss this mouth-watering encounter due to suspension after he was sent off in their last home match against Plateau United

Lukman Muhammed and Yushau Garba are also in line to return to the matchday squad after being on the sidelines for four weeks due to knee and groin injuries, respectively.

Previous Meetings

‘The Sai masu gida’ boys avenged this loss in the reversed fixture with same score line at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano with late Chinedu Udoji early headed effort.
