The Emir of Katsina Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has approved the appointment of Malam Gambo Mustapha Amadu and Malam Dayyabu Amadu as the new Chief Imam of Katsina and his deputy respectively. 

Until his appointment, Amadu was the deputy chief imam.

He succeeded late Lawal Muhammadu who died in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 95.

The secretary of the Emirate Council and Sallaman Katsina Bello Ifo who confirm the development to Daily Trust said Malam Dayyabu Amadu shall served as his Ratibi (deputy).

Consequently, the duo are to be installed with their new titles this Friday by the Emir at the palace, thereafter expected to lead his first Friday prayer at the central mosque.

The Chief Imam of Katsina, Sheikh Muhammad Lawal has passed away at the age of ninety-six and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

He died after a prolonged illness and is survived by four wives and twenty-six children.

The late nanogenerian had served as Chief Imam of Katsina for forty-one years having been appointed by a former Emir of Katsina, Late Sir Usman Nagogonin nineteen seventy-seven.

Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Bello Masari has condoled with the people of Katsina State and the family of the late Imam describing his death as a great loss.
