Some members of the All Progressives Congress in the Funtua Zone of Katsina State have thrown their weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to internal democracy in the party and the rejection of extension in Katsina State.
The party members, under the aegis of Katsina Youths for Sustainable Change, made their position known on Tuesday.
A statement by Na’im Abdullahi, the DG 2 of the KYSC, said this was the consensus of members who spoke at the APC Funtua Zonal Mega Rally held on April 29, 2018 at Filin Aya Public Square, Funtua.
According to the statement, speakers at the rally included a former member of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Jarmai Mahuta; former Speaker of Funtua Local Government, Hon. Haruna Abdulrasheed Funtua; Chairman Mobile Phones Dealers Association, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal; and Usman Buhari Danja amongst other politicians.
He explained that the Zone, which is the largest in the state, comprising 11 local governments, produced Senator Abu Ibrahim; Governor Aminu Bello Masari; Hadiza Bala Usman, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority; and Alhaji Samaila Isa Funtua amongst other illustrious sons and daughters of Katsina State.
Abdullahi added in the statement: “Our Zone contributed six hundred thousand (600,000) votes to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 elections and we are ready to repeat the feat in 2019. To that effect, we will put up a series of events to shore up solidarity and support for the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Bello Masari in the 2019 general elections. We call on all and sundry to join hands with Funtua zone and the APC, Katsina State in its resolve to move Nigeria forward by sustaining the change mandate.”
