PRESS STATEMENT

As you are aware, on Monday April 16, 2018 I resigned from the Katsina State Hotels Board which I was a member since 21 August, 2017.

One of the leading reasons of my action as explained in the letter of my disengagement from service addressed, submitted to the Secretary to the State Government as acknowledged “is to enable me pursue my desire to contribute more meaningfully to the development and progress of my people in particular and Katsina state in general through other endeavours without compromise or constituting a clog in the wheel of your government.”

As a politician who is desirous of impacting positively on the people, my mission in this regard is simply service to the humanity. However, it is sad to note that this mission cannot be accomplished under the self acclaimed change government of Governor Masari in Katsina state.

Lest we forget, the Masari led government came through a social contract with Katsina people premised on improved and better living condition. Alas, three years down the line, life of an average Katsina indigene has become miserable and unbearable, no thanks to insensitive and visionless Masari administration.

Sadly, while majority of our compatriots wallow in poverty, hunger, deprivation and want those in government, their allies and family members as well as those close to them who hitherto couldn’t afford basic needs of life now live in affluence, abundance and recklessly extravagant. This absurdity is in total disagreement with my understanding and concept of governance especially under a democratic administration. As such, my continue stay under such arrangement negates my fundamental believe and principle in politics for service to people and humanity.

It is unfortunate that, service delivery under the Masari administration is at its lowest ebb with virtually every sector in comatose.  Our pride as people with incontrovertible history of scholarship, knowledge, wisdom, courage and industry is threatened by the inept manner in which the APC government stirs the affairs of our state. Critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, environment, water supply, infrastructure, civil service etc have continued to suffer neglect despite colossal federal allocation accruing to the state monthly.  This is in addition to other special financial interventions by the federal government such as Paris Club refund and Ecological funds as well as other interventions by development partners.

No wonder, recent political developments in the state indicate that Katsina people are yearning and desirous for positive change. A case in point is the massive attendance of a mammoth crowd at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rally held in the state which recorded an unprecedented turn out of people. This is a clear indication that the Masari government is heading for crash as such no right thinking person can afford to remain in a sinking ship, hence my resolve to throw in the towel and move on.

Thank you.

Aisha Muhammad Kankara
