Some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had on Friday early morning whisked away one Hajiya Diya, a 82-year-old, mother of Nagogo Mamman from her hometown, Bayan village of Dutsin-ma Local Government Area, Katsina state.

However, no ransom was demanded as of press time, though the kidnappers said they will communicate with the family via Diya’s telephone lines.

Mamman, the son of the victim, who is said to be an oil business tycoon and owner of Shema Petroleum filing station, Katsina, is yet to make any statement on the kidnap.

It was gathered that the kidnappers numbering about five, stormed the matrimonial home of Diya, demanding for some money from her and her inability to settle their demand necessitated her abduction.

Gambo Isah, the state Police Public Relations Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with press.

DSP Isah said efforts were on by his men and officers to rescue the victim from the kidnappers.

A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity, said kidnappers whisked her away on a motorcycle, which broke down along the way but continued their journey using a water vendor’s car to ferry her away.

The source also confirmed that one Usman Barkiya, who attempted to rescue Diya from the kidnappers, was shot twice in his stomach and his hand.

According to the source, Barkiya is currently receiving treatment at the General hospital, Dutsinma.
