A 35-year-old housewife, Sahura Musa, a resident of Gyazama village in the Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State has been remanded in the Katsina Prison custody in connection with the drowning of her stepdaughter inside a well, Punch reports.

The housewife was arraigned before Hajiya Fadila Dikko of the magistrate court on Tuesday on charges of culpable homicide.

The police told the court that the defendant’s husband, Musa Mohammed, reported the incident to the police at Dandume on February 13, 2018.

The police prosecutor told the court that on January 24, 2018, at about 8pm, the accused carried the two-year-old daughter, Nana Farida, to an unknown place.

Farida’s corpse was said to have later been found the following day inside a neighbour’s well located within the compound.

The police claimed that investigation linked Sahura Musa to the incident, leading to her arrest.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, said Sahura had committed an offence contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code.

He told the court that investigation was still in progress on the incident and pleaded that the case be adjourned to a new date for mention.

The magistrate adjourned the case till May 8, 2018, directing that Musa should be remanded in the prison custody till then.
