Goat farming is one of the most rewarding animal rearing business anyone can engage in anywhere in the world. Goat meats are widely accepted and consumed around the globe.

Research has shown that the goats reproduce twice a year and give up to two liters of milk daily.

In an effort to alleviate poverty from the plights of the less privilege in the state, Katsina state government from its inception under the leadership of governor Aminu Bello Masari has so far launched three sets of goats’ distribution empowerment programme to its citizens.

In view of this, Katsina Post has gathered the instants which include;

  1. On 2nd August 2016 Katsina government under its women empowerment scheme launched its first goat distribution programme in which 240 women were selected across the 34 local government of the state.

Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Empowerment super headed the distribution process were each beneficiary received two female goats and one male goat.

The official said that the animals were purchased in Niger Republic, and were of highly reproductive and good for breeding.

  1. Similarly, on 11th November 2017, the Katsina state government launched goat empowerment of secondary school students.

While launching the programme at Government Girls Arabic Secondary School, Dutsinma, the state commissioner for Education, Halimatu Idris, said the programme was aimed at empowering students to be self-reliant.

Although, the state government through it DG. Media and publicity have revoked the statement made by the commissioner which according to him the goats were meant for practical purposes, not empowerment scheme.

  1. On Sunday 25th February 2018 not fewer than 1000 women from three senatorial zones were empowered with a pair of goats Katsina state government in Kaita local government area.

While distributing the goats, the state commissioner of women affairs, Dr. Badiyya Hassan Mashi said the gesture is part of Governor Masari’s effort of alleviating the plights of the less privilege in the state.
