The real reason why we established 17 Brigade in Katsina – Buratai 


The Chief of Army staff Lt-General Tukur Buratai, said the decision of the Army to established the 17 brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina was informed by the recent threat analysis conducted by the Army.

Buratai made this known in Katsina on Thursday when he led some of the top military brass to government house on a courtesy visit on Gov Aminu Bello Masari.

He noted that the Army was very much concernd with the precarious security challenges in some parts of Nigeria.

Buratai also disclosed that the aim and the objectives of setting up the brigade in Katsina was promote security as well as the face headlong the myriads of security challenges in the area.

“The 17 brigade was to serve and secure the north west zone”. He said

He reiterated that the new military formations and units established across Nigeria were approved by the military council, “stressing they were to dutifully coordinate and execute military operations for robust counter security challenges.

The Army chief assured the Katsina stategovernment the unconditional support, determination and commitment to secure the state and the nation in general.Responding, Gov Aminu Bello Masari, described the gallantry exhibited by the Nigerian Army in the last three years as has been laudable and commendable.

Masari said the state was vulnerable to attacks and counter attacks by criminals killing innocent souls due to the fact that it shares boarder with the neighbouring Niger republic.

“We appeal for more presence of military personnel and the sister security agencies to safeguard our people.

He attributed the vulnerability of the stateto the hoodlum attacks to the proximity of the seven local governments out of 34to the Rugu forest, stressing am quite optimistic that the security agencies would redouble their efforts to completely secure the plash points and the state in general.
