Masari invites Niger Republic to establish historical center in UMYUK, FUDMA

The Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has promised that the present administration would continue to sustain the bilateral relations that binds Nigeria and Niger Republic.

Alhaji Aminu Masari was speaking when he received the Minister of Arts and cultural Renaissance in Niger Republic, Alhaji Assoumana Malam Issa who paid him a courtesy visit at government house, Katsina.

The Governor was happy to hear from the envoy that Niger Republic is partnering with two universities in Northern Nigeria to establish a historical centre at the birth place of sheikh Usman Danfodio of blessed memory, which now is in Niger Republic.

Alhaji Aminu Masari however requested the envoy to consider including Umar Musa Yar’adua University and Federal university, Dutsinma to join ABU,Zaria and Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto in the establishment of the centre.

He reminded the Minister that some of the people in Katsina state have their ancestral homes from several communities in Niger Republic before the colonial masters draw the artificial administrative boundaries.

The Governor assured that the present APC administration both at federal and Katsina state government levels would continue to work under the Nigeria- Niger Joint Commission.

Earlier, the Minister of Arts and cultural Renaissance in Niger Republic, Alhaji Assoumana Malam Issa told Governor that he was on his way to Abuja for the signing of memorandum of Understanding- MOU at federal ministry of information and culture for the establishment of the historical center.

Alhaji Assoumana said the centre is to be run by the two universities in collaboration with the university in Maradi at the birth place of sheikh Usman Danfodio now in Maradi state of Niger Republic.

He announced that there are over 200 tombs of waliyya in the village, which three Universities would rediscover the authentic history.

The Minister informed Governor Masari that president Muhammad Yusuf directed him to visit Katsina and felicitate with the Governor over his last visit to Maradi. He assured that the people of Niger Republic would continue to be the brother’s keepers  of Nigerians.
