The people’s Democratic Party in Katsina has warned Governor Aminu Bello Masari over the governor’s plan to set up caretaker committees for the 34 local Council in the state, describing it as ”illegal” and “unconstitutional”.
This was contained in a press statement signed by State Chairman, Salisu Yusuf Majigiri and made available to the newsmen in Katsina.
The statement Said, despite the party’s reservation about the recent judgement of the Court of Appeal Kaduna Division that ruled on the power of Governor Masari to dissolve elected local government councils, however, other aspect of the judgement states that the governor cannot set up caretaker committees after dissolving the elected ones as such act is illegal and unconstitutional.
The ruling of “Justice Obientobara Daniel-Kalio has affirmed the decision of the Supreme Court that constituting caretaker committees by the state governor is illegal,” Majigiri said.
The state chairman also urge the governor to respect the rule of law. ” Therefore, we urge Governor Aminu Bello Masari to take note of the decision of the court in his subsequent actions as this a constitutional democracy where the rule of law must be kept sacrosanct”. The statement read.
He finally urge members of the party to remain calm and have faith in the judiciary as the party appeals the verdict of the court of Appeal.
